The 2005 Season
JULY MEETING REPORT - MANNIC & ERA R4D STAR
The
July 2nd meeting at Shelsley Walsh was once more a record breaking affair
with the three wheeler record going on Saturday to Jason Reeve and Dawn Bateman
with their FRS 2wd 1100. He removed 0.7 of a second of his previous mark to
leave it at 30.70 seconds. An incredible performance. Nic Mann was Best Time
of Day in his incredible Mannic 4wd Sportsracer that is powered by a 1700cc
4 cylinder with a helicopter starter engine always blowing air into the turbo
to keep the boost up. 4WD and slippery aerodynamics took him to 26.84 seconds,
just 0.24 outside his own sportscar record. It was so appropriate that his
original Morris Minor was present in the spectator car park, still resplendent
in cream and blue with the red orange and blue stripes down the side. (See
Photo) “I had not seen it for maybe ten years or so, but I see that
it is a little more luxurious now with carpet in it...” He quipped.
Since Mann sold it, the engine has been bored out to 4 litres, but still turbo
charged and on nitrous oxide, the Minor is still good for 600bhp.
Sunday July 3rd saw the annual meeting at Shelsley held in conjunction with the VSCC, a full entry filling the paddock. Mac Hulbert took Best Time of Day with R4D, just a little outside his record set 12 months earlier. Worries of a slipping clutch or faulty gearbox were reasons why he dropped 10 – 15mph over the line. The star of the start line was the Napier Bentley of Chris Williams. Never, ever in the 100 year history of Shelsley has there been so much smoke off two tyres leaving the line. The 24 litre W12 engine impressed all...
The sun shone all day upon a healthy crowd leaving many sunburnt.
