In the misty early morning of September 10th, competitors walk
the world famous Shelsley Walsh track prior to a day of competition in glorious
weather.
The sun shone all weekend in the Teme Valley as the Midland Automobile Club closed their 2006 Shelsley Walsh season with the final Midland Hill Climb Championship round of the year. Glorious weather bought MAC members and a host of other spectators to the historic 101 year old hill on the weekend of 9th & 10th September.
Long time competitor Roy Standley driving his ultra rapid Mitsubishi EVO 5 wrapped up the class-based Midland championship by lunchtime on Sunday! Man of the meeting was Ash Mason in his Westfield SEi who twice lowered his class record on the day.
But the Young family crowned a season of success for husband and wife pairing of Sue and Deryk Young. Best Time of the Day went to Deryk with a 24.20 second run in his 4 litre Gould-Judd GR51 single seater. For the third time this year Sue lowered her ladies hill record to 25.32 seconds in the same car.
Second BTD went to Chris Merrick in his similar Gould GR55 with a 24.70 and recent Shelsley resident Simon Durling took third BTD also in a Gould GR55 but with a 2.65 litre Cosworth based NME engine.
In addition to these records, Robin Hawker in his Westfield Megabusa took the Class A(1) and A(2) record from Robert Kenrick; Peter Cox took the 1972 to 1985 racing car class in his Chevron B42; Kelvin Lee took the class record for pre 1972 sports cars; and class sponsor Paul Matty took a record in his own Lotus championship class!
A superb finale in great weather enjoyed by so many competitors and spectators.
Roll on 2007!
