The Reg Phillips Trophy and Vintage Meetings
3rd July 2010 to Sunday 4th July 2010

The Reg Phillips Trophy and Vintage meetings were successfully run on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of July in near perfect conditions.

Winner of the Reg Phillips on Saturday was Kington farmer John Jones in his mighty Pilbeam MP88 single seater powered by an ex-Indianapolis Cosworth twin turbo engine. After a difficult Saturday morning practice session with fuel starvation he stormed to the top of the famous hill in a time of 27.54 seconds for the Best Time of the Day.

He was pushed all the way by Mike Tregonning (Wadebridge, Cornwall) in another Pilbeam MP88 and Martin Jones from Tenbury Wells in a Reynard single seater.

Kidderminster driver Chris Jones won his class in his Kingswinford-built Westfield sports car and experienced Stourbridge driver Martin Depper was easily head of his class in his heavily modified Mini Cooper that has the cylinder head from a BMW motorcycle grafted on to the engine.

On Sunday the crowds of visitors revelled in the atmosphere of the Vintage meeting featuring over 130 Vintage and pre-war classic racing and sports cars.

The renowned Vintage and classic racer Mac Hulbert took the Best Time of the Day in ERA R4D which is possibly the most famous of all cars associated with Shelsley Walsh. The car took many past best times at Shelsley Walsh from 1938 to 1954 in the hands of both Raymond Mays and Ken Wharton.
