The Future of Shelsley Walsh
The
new 99 year lease which ensures the future of the Shelsley Walsh hill climb
is now operational. Apart from long term security it has also given access
to a range of buildings which were not included on the previous lease and
restoration work on them has begun.
Additionally
the Midland Automobile Club now has more frequent use of the hill and already
in 2006 we’ve had an extra competition weekend. Weekday use is also
available and testing and track days are being arranged.
The
buildings at the base of the hill are being restored, and will add greatly
to the appeal of the hill and as they surround a courtyard they will provide
facilities with a club atmosphere. A display area for the club's archives
will be arranged together with a museum where cars and memorabilia from the
hills past will be shown. A restaurant, regalia sales area, additional toilets
and a club office will follow whilst the old water mill is being restored
to working condition and should become a visitor attraction.
All
of the work requires more money and fundraising will continue. You can make
donations at present and can buy squares of tarmac on the famous hill by following
the instructions below.
